Huisman Brazil to deliver first crane

Lifting, drilling and subsea solutions specialist, Huisman, will deliver the first crane to have been entirely built and tested at its production facility in Navegantes, south Brazil.

The 50-metre knuckle boom crane is the first half of an order for two units. The cranes will be used on the decks of pipelaying support vessels, Skandi Olinda and Skandi Recife, which are themselves being built in a Brazilian shipyard. The two boats are the result of a collaboration between offshore and subsea fleet operator DOF and project management, engineering and construction company Technip (now TechnipFMC).

Huisman opened its Brazil-based production facility in April 2015. It is the fourth Huisman production facility in the world and is used for manufacturing offshore equipment for the Brazilian market. Huisman said the facility’s location along the Itajai-Açu river enables fast installation of Huisman equipment onboard sea-going vessels.

Although this will be the first crane to be delivered since the production facility opened, Huisman Brazil has already built a set of winch packages for shipping company, Grupo CBO, and it has orders for two more subsea knuckle boom cranes.
